Hey there, how’s it going?  I hope that things are going well for you. Do I care? Well, maybe, but to be honest, there are more pressing things to worry about. And getting this blog post outta my head takes first priority!

Today I was looking through the WordPress dashboard for computersarestupid.com. I found 3 spam comments (no surprise, I was expecting more… I seem to get around 10-15 a day these days)… but I also found 5 comments awaiting approval!

Five! I haven’t had that many legit comments in a long time. I was so excited that I clicked over to look at the 5 legit comments. Slowly the browser refreshed and painted the screen… there they were, and as I started to read them, I realized…..

They were all SPAM COMMENTS, but a new breed of SPAM COMMENTS!! The spammers are really starting to get creative. They will now at least drop a comment that looks legit on your site, but it’s not, hoping that you will approve it. Generally most SPAM COMMENT filters will just put through any comments from a user that has already had one comment approved in the past. It’s a logical way to view it, and the COMMENT SPAMMERS hope that I have clicked the checkbox for: “Comment author must have a previously approved comment”, that would allow any future comments to automatically be posted from that user (as identified by their email address) if I approve at least one of their comments.

So sorry COMMENT SPAM SUCKERS… I am not a sucker. I don’t mind screening comments because I don’t want to let COMMENT SPAMMERS profit from my blog by them putting links for supercrotch grow formula or Canadian pharmacys on my site without my consent. I believe that the best way to fight COMMENT SPAM is to hand filter.

The thing about this new breed of COMMENT SPAMMERS is that they are putting facebook profile page URL’s to throw me off, making me think they are legit, rather than just a Russian, or Romanian porn site.

(Does it come off that I dislike COMMENT SPAMMERS?)
