We usually put in our time going to the Del Mar Fair, which wasn’t true for me for about 14 years because I was living in Colorado and a trip to the Del Mar Fair was at least a 850 mile drive… one way. So now that I’m back in San Diego County, we’ve been going the last few years. Never realy a dissapointment. I used to get to go the fair free when I was 10 or so old when I would canvas the neighborhood and sell tickets to the fair as a cub scout. This year we went early on a wednesday, actually on June 29th to be precise. I wonder if that could have had an effect on what I saw, or yet, didn’t see while we were there.
Nice thing was getting in when the fair opened – 11am. People were not crowding around and the lines weren’t very long for anything, the kids decided to get on some rides right out of the gate… well almost right out of the gate..
Here’s three of them on a ride:
Now one of my favorite things to do at the fair is to go to the ‘shops’ in the main exhibit buildings.. and then also go look at the wood crafters, gemstone area and of course who could miss out on the live stock?? This year everything was pretty great except for the shopping area… it seems like everyone working (with the exception of two vendors, who both sold something to us) was not really into the whole selling thing. I mean c’mon!!! The fair is the place where you are going to build up relationships with the public and really sell and wow them with your gadgets! This year we were in one of the halls and my son had ran out of something to drink. He humbly went over to the *CULLIGAN WATER* Booth and asked if he could get some water. The guy was very rude to him told him he could have a paper cup of water but he couldn’t fill his plastic drinking cup up. I wasn’t present when this happened, I was visiting the bathroom, but upon my return I talked to my son and he told me what had happened. I took the cup from him and said “I’ll be back”. I went straight over to the *CULLIGAN WATER* booth and proceeded to fill up my son’s cup. At the end of my filling up his cup, the *CULLIGAN WATER GUY* told me in no certain terms that I wasn’t to fill up a cup with that much water. I wish I remembered his name, but hopefully someone will run across this post and it will get back to *CULLIGAN WATER OF SAN DIEGO* that their rep is a big jerk. If I were there trying to sell water systems, I would encourage people to take as much water as they wanted… build up some good feelings… but this guy wasn’t engaging anyone, he was sitting on his stool playing angry birds on his smart phone and looking like he couldn’t be bothered. I told him I was interested in getting a *CULLIGAN SYSTEM* and did he have any information I could take… he asked where I lived and then said – “Well, the Escondido store would be servicing you, not my store”… to which I walked away and threw away his information. I would never do business with him or his company, too bad for **CULLIGAN** that this guy was an ass. They were tapped into the city water, my son getting 24 oz of water was no impact on him or culligan…
But that seemed to be the attitude at alot of these places. Come on people! The economy is starting to get warm again…. make a freaking effort to get people to buy! Don’t be boring or just plain jerks… you need us more than we need you. And it makes a poor statement about your company if you are rude, sleeping in the booth, or just not engaged… people go to the fair to see new things, get new ideas and yes… to BUY!
