Guess what? Your wonderful Blu-Ray DVD playback device… well it’s a computer! (I actually knew that, and most of you probably did as well)
I just recently put in a new blu-ray disc into the beast and was told that not all of the features of the blu-ray disc would be played. Then it went into lala land. What is lala land? Well it’s the place where you can’t do a darned thing with your Blu-Ray DVD player with that new DVD in it.. I had to turn mine off and wait for it to re-boot again to get it to play another blue-ray DVD.
At this point, I’m really greatly dissapointed in our ‘free marketplace’. Disappointed because a much better HD DVD format bit the dust because another company was better at getting support for it’s competing format. Yes, Sony pulled all it’s power and influence and shoved blu-ray down our throats.
Wait, don’t think I hate Sony, I don’t! I use their computers, and am in love with their audio and video editing software… heck I make money with their tools..! But it was tragic that Toshiba’s HD-DVD format bit the dust. It was awesome with playback, picture was most excellent, it didn’t take 5 minutes for the DVD to load, you popped it in, 20 seconds or less later you were ready to watch a great movie (well a great looking movie). And it’s dead.. bummer.
On top of the irritation of having blu-ray shoved into my life… I find now that I have to UPDATE the stupid thing. Yes, I need to go online and either order a disc from Sony, or download the update, burn it onto a CD and shove it into the blu-ray.
Hmmm.. let’s see.. I don’t ever remember having to do that with my HD-DVD player (which was also a computer..), nor do I remember ever having to do that with my standard DVD player.
It’s the fact that blu-ray is a computer, and Computers Are Stupid! End of subject. They made blu-ray so that they could add “features” in the future… but wait, it’s not Sony that ultimately adds the features to your blu-ray, it’s you! Just another update to manage and hope you don’t screw up… because if you do screw it up (say stop it in the middle of the update) you most likely will need to pack it up and send it back to Sony as a brick… dead as a door nail.
So.. there you have it.. proof that Computers Are Stupid and contagious (blu-ray caught it)…
it’s spreading!
