Today I took my family to see M. Night Shamalan’s live action version of The Last Airbender.

I am a fan of The Last Airbender, I think it’s an engaging well written animation series from Nickelodeon. I started watching it with my kids when it first came out, and have watched up to the very last episode. I watch in re-runs as well.

I was happy that Nickelodian decided to take this property to the next level.

And having watched the movie (the first of a Trilogy by the way) I think that Nickelodeon should shelve this movie, fire the director and the writer (same guy, see the reference above to M. Night…), and start fresh. Keep the actors, they were doing the best the could with a weak and disconnected script, and it looked like M. Night was giving them weak direction as well. VERY few if any could live up to the task of writing, producing, and directing such a grand property as this.

Other than lightening my wallet by around $75.00, the only positive that came from this sophomorish attempt at an epic movie based on an epic story (the story from the animation was epic, not this vomitous mass that made it to the silver screen) was that it brought my family together…. we all completely disliked, if not out and out hated the movie. We were very much in agreement.

I feel like I got bent… over a crappy movie. M. Night Shamalan would do well if he would refund my hard earned cash, $75.00, that I spent to have a good time with my family, which we didn’t have, and somehow get that 90 or so minutes back from each of our lives.

Yeah, like that will happen.
