So, today I went to one of my favorite restaurants to have lunch with my Mother-n-law.  It’s a great place, good food and free wi-fi.  At the restaurant it’s not uncommon, just like at certain coffee shops, to see people sitting and tapping out whatever on their laptops.

It’s also not uncommon to see people sitting around eating and having a bible study, it doesn’t happen a lot, but on occasion.  I’m religious, have my beliefs and respect the beliefs of others.  I think it’s great that people feel comfortable doing that.  Bravo!

However, today I was sitting enjoying lunch, and a group of four people were at a table not so far away all with laptops open two on each side of a small table, discussing theological ideals… at least two bibles sitting in between them…  I didn’t want to be rude, but I really wanted to know how they were using the computers during their meeting.  So, I glanced over a couple of times and took a few long glances as I left the restaurant.

It looked like they were writing notes about what they were discussing, using the web to look up information related to their discussions.  All of it pretty darned cool!

No matter what the topic, be it religious in nature, or business, or hobby related… to have the ability to research, create, and communicate on the fly no matter where you may be is something that is so powerful and amazing, if you really think about it, almost g-d like.  What would our ancestors have been able to do with the amount of knowledge freely available, the ability to contact nearly anyone, anywhere, anytime?  How about the founders of our country?  How about scientists like Salk, Oppenheimer, Curie, or Einstein?

The sad thing is that most of the time we take this amazing power for granted….   I do, do you?

What amazing discoveries will be made in a coffee house, spiritual in nature, or political, or the cure for some disease?  It boggles the mind, it truly is too big to wrap my head around it.

I can’t wait to see what happens next…
